AEW President Tony Khan has officially announced the creation of another new championship, set to be crowned at Full Gear.
A tournament is currently underway on AEW television, which is set to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions, but that won’t be the only new championship introduced to AEW.
Speaking in a Twitter live announcement, Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone officially announced the creation of the AEW National Championship, citing the history of the National Championship on TBS, which merged with the United States Championship back in 1986.
The first National Champion in almost 40 years is set to be crowned at AEW Full Gear, with a Casino Gauntlet set to take place on the show to crown the inaugural champion.
Tony Schiavone will provide more information on the National Championship on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Tony Khan noted that the title will be defended across multiple promotions, including NJPW STRONG and ROH.
Tony Khan also made an announcement tonight in regards to the Blood and Guts match set to take place next week, which you can see here.
