Lexie Hull is opening up about planning her wedding to Will Matthiessen.

The 26-year-old star player for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA spoke exclusively with PEOPLE while on the red carpet at the Glamour Women of the Year event at The Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

During the conversation, she gushes that wedding planning has been “going really well!” However, she adds that it’s still very early in the planning phase.

“Honestly, we haven’t had too much time to dive into the details yet, but it’s been fun so far. That’s probably the hardest part, trying to plan while we’re both so busy,” she says.

Hull and Matthiessen announced their engagement on Instagram on April 20, sharing some photos from their beachside engagement.

In them, Hull radiated pure joy while looking down at her fiancé as he got on one knee. Dressed in a blue dress and tan heels, she showed off her engagement ring in a photo while the couple toasted with champagne.

“engaged to my best friend 💛 cheers to forever!” she captioned the post.

A few weeks later, the couple celebrated their fifth anniversary with another post on social media.

“I love this life with you 🤍 cheers to 5 years!” she captioned the post, which included multiple pictures of the two together.

When asked if her teammates — including star players Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham — would be at her side on the big day, Hull shies away from getting too specific about her wedding party.

“They’ll definitely be at the wedding, but we’ll see about the bridal party lineup,” she teases.

Despite that, Hull stresses the strength of her bond with teammates like Clark, who she describes as “one of my best friends on the team.”

“I’m really grateful for Caitlin,” she says, adding, “And it’s been amazing growing together and chasing the same goals.”

As for their relationship off the basketball court, Hull explains, “We just have such a natural connection. We push each other in practice but also have so much fun, it’s a good balance of competitiveness and friendship.”

Hull reveals one thing that Clark teases her about: Her tanning.

“Oh, she definitely jokes about it! She’ll make comments here and there, but it’s all in good fun. We gave her a hard time right back; she could probably use a little sun herself!” she replies.

Fans might recall that Clark jokingly urged Hull and Cunningham to focus more on practice after the athletes shared some photos together in May. “Little less tanning. A little more bball ladies,” she commented on the Instagram post.

In September, Clark revealed that she was going to be out for the remainder of the season after sustaining injuries over the summer.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Hull says that the year and the basketball season in particular “was definitely a year of growth.”

“We faced a lot of adversity with injuries — at one point, almost half our roster was out — but that helped us grow closer,” she says.
