An 8-year-old girl has died as a result of her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Oakville, Ont. A 47-year-old man has been charged, police say.
An eight-year-old girl is dead and her mother is in the hospital after they were struck by an SUV in Oakville on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to North Service Road West, west of Dorval Drive, shortly before 4 p.m. for a collision.
Halton police said a 47-year-old man was driving an SUV on North Service Road when, for unknown reasons, left the road and struck a 39-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter.
Police initially reported that the girl was seven years old.
Both pedestrians were taken to the hospital and were later transferred to a trauma centre, and police said the child was subsequently pronounced dead.

There is no immediate word on the mother’s condition.
Police said the driver remained at the scene. He has since been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
“With regards to our Collision Reconstruction Unit, there are various different things they’re going to be looking at: speed of the vehicle, direction of travel, where the collision took place, things of that nature. So that’ll form part of the investigation that is currently ongoing,” Const. Jeffery Dillon said.
