The Saskatchewan Roughriders are one of the most unified teams on and off the field in the Canadian Football League. That is, until it comes to the rivalry between the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina. The Huskies and Rams will meet in the 88th Hardy Cup Saturday in Saskatoon.

Huskies alumnus Nick Wiebe admitted it has been tough to speak to his teammate and former Rams’ DB Jaxon Ford this week.

“It’s always friendly, but we got some money on the line for the dogs and the Rams, so we’ll see how that one goes. Obviously, I’m betting on my dogs, but it’s going to be a heck of a game. It always is between those two teams.”

Former Rams defensive back Tevaughn Campbell has a prediction for the game.

“Rams 34, Huskies 17. I’m giving us two good plays on special teams. A block punt, we’re going to recover it. We’re going to block a field goal for an extra point. I mean, the ball’s just going in the air.”

Fellow D-B Nelson Lokombo, who played with the Huskies, is confident in his former team.

“We’ve talked to a few guys about it. We’ve got some good bets going, so I’m feeling pretty good about the Huskies and the boys out there, so I’m hoping to get it done.”

Campbell admits that a wager has been made between him and Lokombo.

“Yeah, I bet him 100 push-ups on command. I’m just excited for my boys, man. Go out there, play a good game, repeat like last year.”

While Wiebe says he hasn’t had a chance to catch up with his former teammate and Huskies assistant coach and offensive coordinator, Mason Nyhus, he is confident they will get the job done.

“We’re both pretty busy cats, so we don’t get to talk as much as we might want to during the season, but obviously I’ve got to go be a groomsman at his wedding in April, so I’ll talk to him after the season.”

Kickoff tomorrow afternoon is at 2, a game that will be streamed on RM-3.
