Teddy Opler, recently named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, scored and added an assist and Alex Wolter tied the program record with his 11th shutout of the season to lead Colorado College to a 2-0 victory over Austin College in the SCAC semifinal Friday in Round Rock, Texas.
Â
It’s the first time the Tigers will play in the SCAC Tournament Championship game since the 2019 season.Â
Â
Oliver Ramirez opened the scoring in his first game back from an injury, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute after taking a pass from Opler and beating Austin goalie Patrick Bassett.
Â
Opler then scored an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute for the final margin and Wolter took over after that.
Â
Wolter had to make only two saves but faced nine shots overall from the ‘Roos. His 11 shutouts this season tie Ezra Bayles (1992) and Keller Mochel (2018) for the most clean sheets in one season in the 75-year history of the men’s soccer program.
Â
The Tigers outshot Austin 18-9 in overall shots and 9-2 in shots on goal. Opler had a team-high five overall shots, while Ramirez led all players with four shots on target.
Â
“We are so pleased to be moving on to the final,” head coach Scott Palguta said. “We played well and two terrific goals from Ollie and Teddy helped get us over the line tonight. We could be better defensively, but I can’t complain about a shutout in the postseason. Hopefully, we can produce a similar effort and outcome in Sunday’s final.”
Â
Senior captain Rex Karjian was second on the team with three shots and freshman Ewen Robertson followed with two shots. CC outshot AC 18-9 (9-2 SOG).Â
Â
Colorado College (12-0-6 overall) will face Texas Lutheran in the SCAC championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9, beginning at 2 p.m. (CT).
