The Roughriders made the West Final just last season, but their Grey Cup hopes were dashed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a 38-22 road loss.
The odds are a little more in the Roughriders favour with a home game this time around, but standing in their way is a strong BC Lions team who have won seven straight games. On the field the Lions are led by Canadian All-CFL quarterback Nathan Rourke who found his rhythm back in Canada following a stint in the NFL before the start of last season, while on the sidelines it’s been first-year head coach and former Lions quarterback Buck Pierce calling the shots for what’s been a revamped BC offense.
Roughriders head coach Corey Mace is in his second season at the helm and has also helped create a revamped atmosphere. In Mace’s first season the team finished with a pedestrian 9-8-1 regular season record and beat BC in the semi-final to advance to Winnipeg, but now in 2025 the Roughriders earned a bye going a CFL best 12-6 and have the luxury of a home game in the West Final.Â
Not only will they have home-field advantage on Saturday, but also a team rested and ready to go after the bye week. The Roughriders rested starters in a Week 20 loss to Winnipeg, before giving Trevor Harris and company a half-run in a regular season finale loss to the Lions, but now the team is looking rested and ready to go with the biggest game of the season at Mosaic Stadium finally on-tap.Â
Kickoff is set for 5:30 on Saturday. Either the Roughriders or Lions will play the winner of the East Final between the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats kicking-off beforehand.
