A deceased male was found on site of a Vaughan recycling facility last night.

York Regional Police are investigating after human remains were found at a recycling facility in Vaughan Friday night.

Police say officers were called to a Planchet Road facility at around 9:56 p.m. for reports of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult male “among recycling debris.”

Speaking to reporters shortly after 1 a.m., Duty Inspt. Sgt. Jay Hayes said the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still under investigation.

“Officers arrived on scene, they discovered a deceased adult male at the location. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation,” Hayes said.

He added that the Office of the Chief Coroner, along with homicide and missing persons investigators, are also involved.

“The scene has been secured. You can expect a large police presence in the area while our forensic identification unit processes the scene,” he said, noting police do not believe the deceased is an employee of the facility.

Police say it is not yet known how the man died, how long the remains were there or whether foul play is suspected.

At this time, no suspect description has been provided. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
