An elderly woman is fighting for her life after being found injured in a park in Mississauga. Jon Woodward has the latest.
A woman is in critical condition after an apparent coyote attack at a Mississauga park on Saturday morning.
Peel police said they were called to Lewis Bradley Park, located in the area of Embassy Avenue and Inverhouse Drive, shortly after 6:30 a.m. for reports of a missing vulnerable person.
When officers arrived, they searched the park and located the missing woman with injuries to her lower body, police said.
Peel paramedics told CP24 that they performed life-saving measures on the woman before taking her to the hospital.
Police confirmed the woman was just reported missing this morning, but she may have been wandering overnight.
“There is no indication at this time that the injuries were sustained by foul play,” police said without specifying how the woman got injured.
However, CTV News Toronto has confirmed through eyewitnesses at the scene that the woman’s injuries appear to be from a coyote attack.
Witnesses said the attack happened behind a tree next to a playground overnight.
The incident has left some neighbours worried.
“It’s very sad, but I can see that happening because there are a lot of dogs,” resident Tracey Lee said. “I always have a flashlight and bear spray with me as well in case anything happens. I see them frequently. They’re around all the time.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for the City of Mississauga said there have been “very few” reported sightings around the park.
“There are currently no advisories for wildlife sightings in the area,” the city said.
