Just like many animals tend to have their own animal friends, some even make their own romantic connections. Of course, their view of romance is a lot different from the way that we humans see it, but for many pets — including birds — feeling love and attachment to their mate is a very real thing.
They may not be actual love birds, but the title certainly fits for this Cockatoo couple! In this sweet video that @theparrotlady, Wendy Albright, on TikTok shared on Monday, July 14, we get to meet her bird Sweet Pea’s boyfriend for the first time, and boy is he adorable!
Here, we get to see Chief in action, and it’s easy to see that he is a big fan of showing off! He wasted no time wiggling that adorable leg at the camera.
“This is Sweet Pea’s boyfriend, Chief,” Sweet Pea’s mom wrote in the video. “He has legs for days and Sweet Pea loves him”
Even better is the fact that we can hear those adorable chirps in the background from his girlfriend, who is just as proud of him!
If you’re just as in love with Chief as I am already, I have good news for you: He has his own TikTok account, where you can follow along with all of his adventures. What a cutie!

Even though Sweet Pea and Chief are (obviously) birds, it’s not impossible that they would fall in love. In fact, as Web MD points out, Cockatoos are actually monogamous creatures who bond in pairs and tend to mate for life. Some will even display symptoms of being depressed if their partner dies, so maybe they’re not so different from humans after all?
You know, despite all the feathers and everything.
But given what big personalities so many of these birds seem to have — and the way they form close bonds with their favorite humans — it’s really not all that surprising to find out that they would grow close with each other, too.
May this be just the beginning of Chief and Sweet Pea’s love story. These two clearly have a good thing going already!
