One person was found dead by first responders after an apartment fire in Mississauga. The fire has since been extinguished.
One person is dead and four others are in the hospital after a fire broke out at an apartment in Mississauga’s Cooksville area on Tuesday afternoon.
Peel police said fire crews responded to a building near North Service Road and Asta Drive, west of Cawthra Road, shortly before 12:50 p.m.
Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services Platoon Chief Ryan Baird told CTV News Toronto crews encountered heavy smoke and flames in a unit on the first floor.

“They quickly were able to bring the fire under control. They did find one person in the fire unit who was removed without vital signs,” Baird said.
Police have confirmed the person was pronounced dead.
Peel paramedics told CTV News Toronto that four people were hospitalized, mostly with injuries related to smoke inhalation.
Baird said the building was evacuated, and crews are monitoring air quality before letting residents back in.
