The Columbus Crew boss is thought to be high on the shortlist to replace Brendan Rodgers and one bookmaker has seen enoughWilfried Nancy of the Columbus Crew

One booker has suspended betting on Wilfried Nancy becoming the next Celtic manager.

The Frenchman, currently in charge of Columbus Crew, overtook Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen as the favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers over the weekend.

Nancy ‘s Crew side were dumped out of the MLS Eastern Conference Playoffs by FC Cincinnati, who came out on top in a best of three showdown.

It’s understood Nancy is high on the shortlist of candidates being considered by the Hoops hierarchy, with some reports claiming that he’s right at the top.

Nancy has left the door open for a return to Europe, saying: “I’ve been in situations when nobody knew me, nobody was talking about me, and now they do. Now so with my staff, everything for a moment, works well.

“So I’m happy in Columbus, and after that, we’ll see. I come from Europe, so maybe. I can also come and coach in Africa.”

Now Coral have stopped taking wagers on Nancy being the next man to fill the Parkhead hotseat after the 48-year-old was backed into as short as 1/10.

“We have seen a rush of bets for Wilfried Nancy throughout the day, and after sustained support this evening, we have now pulled the plug on our betting,” said Coral’s PR Manager John Hill.
