Elk Grove celebrated hometown star Kyle Larson with a championship parade at Old Town Plaza on Friday, honoring his 2025 NASCAR Cup Series title, his second career crown after first winning in 2021. “I don’t get to see really anybody that often anymore, from Elk Grove anyways. So it’s good to come here and celebrate and see how much the championship meant to everybody,” Larson said.Larson, 33, graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He recently captured the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series title at the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.The parade brought people from across Elk Grove and beyond to celebrate Larson. “When I found out he was going to be here, I couldn’t pass it up. I supported him since he was 42,” said Donald Culbertson, who came from Alaska to visit family.Larson reflected with KCRA some of his most memorable moments growing up competing in the region.”I raced like sprint cars and stuff, you know, throughout Northern California. Well the West Coast really, but Placerville, Chico, Watsonville, Tulare, Marysville, Petaluma,” Larson said. Larson drives the No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. His third-place finish at Phoenix sealed the championship as the top finisher among the Championship 4 (Denny Hamlin, William Byron, Chase Briscoe, and Larson), delivering team owner Rick Hendrick his 15th Cup title.Larson previously received the key to the city of Elk Grove, which has also proclaimed Nov. 22 as “Kyle Larson Day.”Larson’s Northern California ties run deep at Sonoma Raceway, where he owns wins in 2021 and 2024 and a streak of five consecutive poles from 2017–2022. He’s slated to return to wine country for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with ARCA Menards Series West on Friday, June 26, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday, June 27. Weekend tickets and camping are available on the track’s website; kids 12 and under are free Friday and Saturday and $10 on Sunday.This weekend, Larson was expected to head to Placerville for the Hangtown 100 to chase a third career win in the event. However, the event was canceled on Friday due to weather and Saturday’s race will be determined by 8 a.m. that day.
