An incredible year for Alcaraz has been sealed by ending the year as world number one for the second time in his career.

The Spaniard is now aiming for more success as he aims to win the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time in his career.

A semi-final showdown with Auger-Aliassime now awaits as the Canadian ended Zverev’s season to reach the last four in Turin.

The Canadian has had a sensational second half of the season and will look to reward his efforts by recording the biggest win of his season so far.

After claiming the year-end world number one trophy, Alcaraz said he was ‘proud’ of his efforts this season and thanked his fans for the support.

“It is a pleasure for me [being] the No. 1,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.

“Being the No. 1 of the world is something that I’m working really hard for with my team every day. It is a goal. But I think it is a journey that you’re not going through alone. It’s with your whole team, with your family, with your close people behind you always supporting you in the tough and good moments, which I’m really, really proud about: having such a great team.

“I’m still really proud about the team I have right now. Some new members in the team that I’m really happy and proud to share this moment with them as well. For me it’s a great achievement. It means the world to me and I’m just really proud and happy.

“I want to continue because the support that I’m receiving everywhere that I’m going, I can’t thank enough the people. We’re traveling since the 1st of January until the end of November — new places, new countries, new stages and the people are always the same. The great energy, the great atmosphere, I feel the love everywhere that I’m going.

“In some tournaments, in some matches without the support of the people it wouldn’t be possible to come back, to win, to lift trophies. So I really want to say thank you for all the people who are coming to every tournament, to every match, that are supporting tennis, supporting myself. I’m really grateful for everyone for the energy and the love that I am receiving.

“This trophy is obviously for them.”

Meanwhile Auger-Aliassime praised his serve in big moments and remained unfazed about facing Alcaraz in the semi-finals.

“It was a great first set. He was getting a few chances but I came up with big serves to save them,” Auger-Aliassime stated to the ATP website.

“The first set was very solid and the start of the second set was, too. I had a lot of chances. When that happens you need to focus on the present but you’re aware of missed opportunities, so the match got a little tense from that moment. But I was able to hold serve and in the tie-break it was tight till the end.

“This is a high-value tournament for players. It’s like a grand finale and when you have a look at the list of champions, there have been many No. 1s. You want to be in the final but I’ll have to go through a great player to do that. I will take my chance if I have it.”

Alcaraz will aim to dictate play on the forehand and will use every angle on the court in order to move Auger-Aliassime from side to side.

Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime will continue to take risks on big points especially on the forehand while being aggressive on serve.

This will be a competitive contest between two aggressive players but Alcaraz will survive a seismic test in order to reach the semi-finals.

Prediction: Alcaraz in three sets.

Jannik Sinner [2] v Alex De Minaur [7] | H2H: Sinner leads 12-0

Even though he has missed out on the year-end world number one ranking, Jannik Sinner is still proving why he is the man to beat on indoor hard courts. It’s 29 consecutive wins on the surface after he downed Ben Shelton to remain perfect in Turin as the Italian is on course to defend his title at the Nitto ATP Finals. The next challenge for Sinner is Alex De Minaur after the Australian defeated last year’s finalist Taylor Fritz to book his place in the final four.

The title defence is still on for Sinner as he enters the final four with a perfect record in the group stages.

Never mind Turin, the Italian is now on a 29 match winning streak on indoor hard courts and is aiming to continue that red-hot form after missing out on the year-end world number one ranking.

Next up for Sinner is De Minaur with the Australian only winning one match in the round robin phase but that proved to be a crucial victory as he is now into the semi-finals.

Now, the Australian is looking to stop a 12 match winning streak against the Italian in order to score the biggest win of his career so far.

After his win over Sinner, the Italian praised his level of play in Turin but admits he has a lot to lose heading into the semi-final clash with De Minaur.

“When you come here and win all three round-robin matches, you have to play at a very high level, which I’ve done,” Sinner told the ATP website.

“Serving very well in important moments has brought me to this point. It was a very special day playing in front of the home crowd, and against Ben it’s always a tough challenge. When he comes up with a huge serve, you cannot do a lot, so you have to accept it. My mental aspect [has been] great until now, so let’s see what’s coming.

“When you have these kinds of losses, it’s tough. So props to him to come back with an incredible performance against Taylor [Fritz]. I have to be very careful, because he doesn’t have a lot to lose… I have a lot to lose.”

Meanwhile, De Minaur praised a change in mentality after winning his first match of the tournament against Fritz.

“For the first time in a long time, I forgot about the ‘what ifs’, the results, what happens if I miss this shot, what happens if I lose this match. I just committed to the way I wanted to play from the first point to the last. A couple days ago I didn’t. That’s what hurt so much,” De Minaur explained to the ATP website.

“Today I knew that no matter what, I wanted to be proud of my decision making, my aggressive mindset, and I wanted to go out there and try to win the match.

“But more than anything, regardless of the result today, I had made peace with myself. That was a big, big moment. I knew the way I wanted to play. I was going to commit to it from the first point to the last. I was okay with the result not going my way. I had made peace with that.

“I just wanted to play my way.”

Sinner’s forehand will do most of the damage as the Italian targets efficient form on the return of serve.

Meanwhile, De Minaur will need to be proactive and aggressive in order to test Sinner’s variety.

A fast start is needed for De Minaur but Sinner’s patience mixed with depth in quality should prove too much in this contest as a second consecutive final beckons.

Prediction: Sinner in straight sets.
