The excellent Marco D’Amico made an interesting revelation regarding the acquisition of Zachary Bolduc by the Montreal Canadiens, in connection with Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Yes, you read that right.

Contrary to what many believed, the Canadiens were indeed interested in signing Kuznetsov, but they changed their minds after completing the trade with the St. Louis Blues.

The Arrival of Zachary Bolduc Changed the Montreal Canadiens’ Plans With Evgeny Kuznetsov

It’s also worth noting that Kuznetsov was completely open and interested in playing for the Canadiens.

“They now feel there’s no room for him (Kuznetsov) in Montreal, but they definitely inquired about him before acquiring Zachary Bolduc – that, I can confirm.”

– Marco D’Amico

In short, it looks like Kuznetsov will now have to look elsewhere.

I think he could have been an intriguing and low-cost option for the Montreal Canadiens, especially since he still managed 55 points in the NHL in 2023.. But it’s also far from a disaster if he never signs here.

I’m not so sure he’d be a major upgrade over Kirby Dach – far from it.
