Kris Jenner is remembering how her late ex-husband Robert Kardashian Sr.’s family reacted when she finally welcomed a boy.
The Kardashian-Jenner matriarch, 70, appeared on an episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast on Monday, Nov. 17, and was asked to share one thing that each of her kids has taught her. When she spoke about her son, Rob, 38, Jenner remembered that Kardashian Sr.’s side of the family celebrated like it was “New Year’s Eve” upon hearing she’d had a boy.
“Rob was just a joy, but he was the boy. You know, Robert Kardashian Sr. came from a big Armenian family, and they were praying for a boy from day one,” said Jenner. “So it was always, ‘I hope it’s the boy! I hope it’s the boy!’ And ‘It’s going to be Robert Jr.’ and blah blah blah.”

However, the mom of six — who had three girls before welcoming her son — joked that it was “another girl” after “another girl.”
“And so when Robert was born, it was like all the Armenians were rejoicing. My mother and father-in-law were so happy, and all their friends,” remembered Jenner. “And I remember she ran to the hospital with this beautiful diamond brooch that she gave me. It was so joyful, and it was like New Year’s Eve.”
Jenner said it was “really special” to see Kardashian Sr.’s family’s culture and experience how they celebrated having a boy in the family.
“Because suddenly when Robert was born, the Armenian side of my in-laws really kicked in over at my house,” she explained. “It’s like, ‘We’re going to make, you know, these Armenian meals,’ and trying to teach the kids to speak a little Armenian. Which, you know, didn’t go that far.”
“But it was a lot of fun to learn about that and finally to have the boy that they had been hoping for all that time. And then, so that was joyful,” she continued. “He taught me a lot about what that meant and having probably what they considered more of the head of the family, because I had a son. And what that was like. That was just such a beautiful experience, to have a boy.”
Kris shares her daughters Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian Barker and son Rob with late ex-husband Kardashian Sr. She is also mom to daughters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner with ex Caitlin Jenner.
Back in July, Rob called into sister Khloé Kardashian’s podcast Khloé in Wonder Land and spoke about being a father to his 9-year-old daughter Dream, whom he shares with ex Blac Chyna. As he spoke about how he felt being a father has affected him, Rob noted that he once thought he’d have lots of kids.
“It’s definitely changed me. It’s definitely made me more grounded and I’m instead focusing my energy on other things,” Rob said of fatherhood. “I’m all about my daughter.”
“I always thought I would have like five children and this and that so long ago,” he continued. “I couldn’t even imagine handling five children.”
“It’s definitely given me a lot of responsibility cause you’re taking care of another human,” he said. “There’s so much that goes into it…it’s definitely a lot, but I love it. I’m very lucky, Dream makes it very easy. She’s very smart and she’s a good kid. But it’s still very hard.”
