Sault Ste. Marie Paramedic Services, in partnership with Sault Area Hospital (SAH), has successfully delivered a series of community-based immunization clinics this fall, improving access to vaccines and strengthening local health system capacity.

To date, 1182 vaccines have been administered across by Community Paramedics at free immunization clinics in our district, including 471 RSV, 422 influenza, and 289 COVID-19 doses.

Community-based clinic locations included 615 Bay St., 55 Chapple, Second Line Hub, Chapple Hub, Seniors Active 55+ Centre, and the Alzheimer’s Society, improving access for people who may face mobility, transportation, or primary care barriers.

“We are especially proud of this work. By expanding a network of relevant, impactful health services in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma, we are actively reducing pressure on our emergency department and walk-in clinics during peak seasons for flu, colds, and other respiratory viruses,” said Stephanie Pagnucco, DSSMSSAB Board Chair. “This initiative exemplifies how our Paramedic Service is working in innovative ways to address the growing challenges within today’s complex health care environment.”

Additional public immunization clinics are being planned. The next public immunization clinic takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Goulais Fire & Rescue (240 Old Highway 17 Rd., Goulais River). RSV and flu shots only, COVID-19 shots are out of stock. No appointment, OHIP, or ID required.

The Community Paramedicine Program, supported by the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB), continues to deliver care directly to the community, helping residents stay healthy, independent, and well at home.
