Jeans seem to be a hot topic between these two costars.
On Nov. 20, Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, who are both in The Housemaid film, took part in a rapid-fire video for Vogue, in which Seyfried, 39, mentioned jeans to Sweeney, who came under fire earlier this year for an American Eagle ad about denim.
It was prompted when Sweeney, 28, asked Seyfried, “If you could only wear one item from your closet, what would it be?” The Testament of Ann Lee actress then replied, “Denim. My jeans.” The clip showed Seyfried looking sideways, presumably at Sweeney, but the clip cut to the two chatting about another question.
Later in the segment, the pair mentioned jeans when talking about fashion trends they’d want around forever. “Loose jeans, I don’t want skinny jeans,” said Sweeney.
Sweeney’s American Eagle campaign was released on July 23 and was titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” The tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” prompted critics to claim that the usage of the word “jeans” as a play on “genes” was racially charged and hinted at genetic superiority.
Around a week later, American Eagle published a statement defending their advertisement on Instagram. “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone,” they wrote.

Sweeney didn’t address the backlash until GQ published her “Men of the Year” cover story on Nov. 4. When asked by the outlet if she was surprised by the reaction, she answered directly.
“I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life,” she said.
The Euphoria star later responded to the president and vice president speaking about the ad. “It was surreal,” she replied in reference to Donald Trump‘s praise. In August, President Trump voiced his support for Sweeney’s American Eagle ad when speaking on camera with reporters in Pennsylvania and was informed that she had been a registered Republican in Florida for the past year.
