Nov. 21 (UPI) — Tyron Woodley replaced Chris Weidman as Anderson Silva’s foe for a boxing bout between ex-UFC champions Dec. 19 in Miami, promoters announced Friday.

“Rising to occasions like this are the moments where legends are born,” Woodley said in a news release from Most Valuable Promotions.

Woodley will take on Silva in the six-round cruiserweight matchup on the undercard for a Jake Paul-Anthony Joshua heavyweight clash at the Kaseya Center, which will air on Netflix.

The 50-year-old Silva (3-2) and 43-year-old Woodley (0-2) each previously lost to Paul. The 28-year-old YouTube star-turned boxer beat Woodley twice in 2021. He beat Silva in their lone matchup in 2022.

“Anderson Silva vs. Tyron Woodley is an iconic matchup, continuing to elevate Jake vs. Joshua: Judgment Day into one of the most scintillating combat sports events of the decade,” Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nakisa Bidarian said.

“This is the gladiatorial sport spectacle of the 21st century. A main event that has engaged the entire world. Bringing back two of the MMA GOATS into the spotlight on a global stage, live on Netflix, reflects the magnitude of this card.”

Weidman, who withdrew from the Silva bout due to injury, was set to make his professional boxing debut. The former UFC middleweight champion announced his retirement from mixed marital arts in January. He was 16-8-0.

Woodley owns a 19-7-1 MMA record. Silva, who is widely regarded as one of the best MMA fighters in history, is 34-11.

“I believe that change always happens for a reason,” Silva said. “I am focused on doing a good job. Always respecting my opponent and showing total respect to the boxing world.”

Alycia Baumgardner’s unified super featherweight title defense bout with Leila Beaudoin remains the co-main event. The preliminary card features an undisputed bantamweight world championship bout between Cherneka johnson and Amanda Galle. Yokasta Valle will battle Yadira Bustillos in a WBC strawweight title fight.

The card also includes bouts between Avious Griffin and Justin Cardona (welterweight) and Keno Marley and Diarra Davis Jr. (cruiserweight).

“It’s incredible to have the opportunity to fight on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua card,” Davis said. “Being on a stage like that is a dream come true for me. I’m stepping into the ring fully prepared and ready to go get that win.”
