UPDATE: On Friday afternoon, the City of Pembroke said water had been restored to some of the affected residential properties and that work was underway to restore water to the others by midnight. The exception is the Miramichi Lodge long-term care home, where potable water will be supplied until the water main repairs are completed, according to the city’s update.
The City of Pembroke is asking people living there and in neighbouring Laurentian Valley to conserve water for about two weeks after a major water main break.
“All water system users are asked to reduce their water consumption wherever and whenever possible during this time, but understand people need to go about their daily lives,” the city wrote in a statement Friday morning.
It had originally asked people to avoid laundry and cleaning their homes.
The water is safe to consume, the city added.
The statement said the city is providing water to fewer than 30 properties that have lost water entirely.
The two-week timeline is due to the extent of the broken pipe near Riverside Park and specialized repairs needed, according to the city.
