Healthcare bosses in Hay River say they are beginning work to restart a foundation that can raise money for services in the community.
The Hay River Health and Wellness Foundation “has been on pause in recent years,” town health authority chief executive Erin Griffiths said last week, because of Covid-19 and other disasters like floods and wildfires that had interrupted its work.
“Despite these disruptions, the foundation’s mission to support health and social services initiatives in Hay River remains important,” Griffiths stated in a quarterly report to the authority’s public administrator.
“Steps have been taken to reestablish the foundation board with a call for community volunteers, which began in September.
“We look forward to reconnecting with community members who are passionate about strengthening local healthcare and contributing to meaningful initiatives.”
Addressing a public meeting last week, Griffiths said volunteers had stepped away from the foundation during the pandemic and the various climate-related disasters.
“We really want to reestablish the foundation. It was a successful foundation, it raised a lot of money for the health centre,” she said, “and we would like to rebuild that.”
