Two more WWE stars have advanced in the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent during tonight’s SmackDown.
Prior to today, six of the eight quarter-finalists were confirmed with two first round matches still to go.
The already-confirmed quarter-finalists were LA Knight, Jey Uso, Rusev, Sheamus, Solo Sikoa and GUNTHER.
However, per an announcement from WWE earlier in the day, Sheamus has been pulled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury and will be replaced by another mystery participant.
Nonetheless, the two first round matches set for tonight’s SmackDown were Bronson Reed vs Carmelo Hayes, and Finn Balor vs Penta.
In the first of those matches, Hayes picked up the win against Reed via countout after Reed had been attacked at ringside by Cody Rhodes when the referee was distracted by the Usos coming out and brawling with Bron Breakker and Logan Paul.
In the second first round match tonight, Penta picked up the win against Finn Balor.
On this coming Monday’s episode of Raw, two quarter-final matches will take place in the form of GUNTHER vs Hayes, and Sikoa vs Penta.
The other quarter-finals that will take place on SmackDown next week are Uso vs Rusev, and Knight vs the mystery Sheamus replacement.
We’ll continue to keep you posted on the tournament as it progresses with the winner facing John Cena in his final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
