A WWE star was unmasked during their match on tonight’s November 21 episode of SmackDown in Denver, Colorado.
One of the promoted bouts heading into the show tonight was a tag team match between DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) vs Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom).
In something of a news item from right before the match, DIY made their entrances with their classic CFO$ entrance themes from NXT, so Ciampa came out to No One Will Survive before he was joined by Gargano who came out to Rebel Heart.
Gargano’s wife Candice LeRae also accompanied them at ringside.
The end of the match saw LeRae get involved as she actually ripped off Axiom’s mask, which led to him being pinned as DIY picked up the win and he tried to cover his face.
After the match, Axiom covered his face with a towel as Frazer helped to protect his face from being revealed.
Despite this usually being done by luchadores in Mexico, Axiom isn’t a traditional luchador as he’s from Spain rather than Mexico.
He also originally wrestled without a mask under the name A-Kid, both before WWE and also for a few years in WWE as part of NXT UK and NXT, before he debuted the masked Axiom gimmick in 2022.
It remains to be seen whether this is the start of Axiom being unmasked full-time, or if the unmasking was just for tonight.
Original plans for Fraxiom in NXT were actually for them to split up and face each other in a hair vs mask match, at which point Axiom may have been unmasked – either that or Frazer would have been shaved bald.
