Although tourism arrivals and receipts for January-September show an increase of 4% and 9% respectively year-on-year, receipts in September alone showed a decline of 3.6%, despite the increase in arrivals – also by 3.6% – in the same month per Bank of Greece data published on Thursday, raising concerns about what exactly happened in September.
Tourism receipts came to 3.42 billion euros compared to €3.548 billion in September 2024, for the first annual decrease in receipts since August 2024.
Given the increase in arrivals it is assumed there was either a large decrease in per capita spending, or there has been a statistical error.
