Miley Cyrus celebrated her 33rd birthday on Sunday, and the legendary singer shared a touching post that noted her positive view on aging.

Cyrus, who rose to fame on the Disney Channel’s breakout hit series Hannah Montana, grew up in the public eye as the daughter of country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. From 2006 to 2011, she played Miley Stewart on the iconic program before breaking boundaries in her own musical career. Her 2023 song “Flowers” was the ultimate declaration of independence, and it’s safe to say Cyrus is living that right now.

Her birthday post was an empowering message that praised the changes that come with aging, from finding great friendships to the development of wrinkles on one’s face.

“33 is already burning bright thanks to the warmth of your sweet birthday wishes. All I want this year is more laughs with the people who give me the little smile lines that are starting to show up. 🤍 I love you all,” she captioned the set of black-and-white photos, which feature the beauty blowing out her birthday candle and smiling.

Cyrus Says She Was the First Person to be Canceled

While Cyrus has found great peace at age 33, she’s been through a lot, including struggles with substance abuse and divorce. Back in October, she opened up about what it was like being a hot rod for controversy during her “Bangerz” era.

“I was the first person to maybe ever be canceled, I guess,” Cyrus told CBS Sunday Morning earlier this year, Billboard reported. “Well, you know, I didn’t know until I was older, actually, how brutal it really was, ‘cause it was very, I guess, you know, challenging for other people,” she continued. “But for me, it was a good time. It looked fun, and it was fun.”

Still, Cyrus said she wouldn’t look at anyone going through what she did and judge them the same way people did to her.

“I would never now, being where I am, ever look at someone in their 20s from the view of who I am now,” she said. “But at the time, it was awesome.”
