The Toronto Argonauts have signed four American players, including receiver Marcus Rogers and defensive backs Jaylen Jones, Nic Toomer, and Damaje Yancey.
Rogers caught 35 passes for 427 yards and 10 touchdowns over 11 games with the Jacksonville Sharks of the Indoor Football League last season. The six-foot-four, 200-pound target attended training camp with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2024 and previously attended rookie minicamp with the Chicago Bears.
Jones attended training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft but was released prior to the start of the regular-season. The six-foot-one, 203-pound native of Richmind, Va. played collegiately at Virginia Tech where he made 77 total tackles, 11 pass knockdowns, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Toomer spent the second-half of the 2025 season on Toronto’s practice roster but didn’t see any game action. The six-foot-two, 200-pound defender played collegiately at Stanford University and Indiana University, recording 55 total tackles, five pass deflections, one sack, and one interception.
Yancey finished his collegiate career at Troy University where he made 51 total tackles, two sacks, 10 pass deflections, and one interception over 19 games. The six-foot-one, 180-pound defender previously played at Southern Utah where he made 54 tackles and eight pass knockdowns over 25 games.
The Toronto Argonauts finished third in the East Division standings in 2025 with a 5-13 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Franchise quarterback Chad Kelly was unable to play all season due to a fractured leg he suffered in the East Final the previous year, giving way to Nick Arbuckle, who threw for 4,370 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions to be named the team’s candidate for Most Outstanding Player.
The Argonauts ranked seventh in net offence, sixth in net defence, and seventh with a turnover differential of minus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was Spencer Brown with 314 yards, leading receiver was Dejon Brissett with 907 yards, and leading tackler was Cameron Judge with 79 tackles. Toronto ranked ninth in attendance with average crowds of 15,109, which was a 0.1 percent decrease from the previous year.
