Disruption continues in Tipperary town due to a broadband outage on the Open Eir infrastructure.  Business operators are now being promised that service will be restored by  5pm on Friday – several earlier deadlines for restoration have passed since Sunday without delivery. One business owner says the 5pm deadline is for the next update and not restoration of service.

A dental practice that uses communications systems based on the internet cannot engage with orthodontic patients, accounting firms cannot process payroll runs, make returns to Revenue or submit SUSI grant applications on behalf of customers. Card payments are not possible in some stores although some operators have found a work around solution.

The doctors’ practice in the area is severely disrupted – it cannot send emails, forward prescriptions or submit signed documents to the Department of Social Protection for cases such as Illness benefit.  A legal office says emails communication and access to online searches are also disrupted. In addition, the option for the businesses to use social media to provide posts is not available as conveniently as when the broadband service is operating.

A business selling musical instruments at Bank Place says customers have been very understanding about the outage.

Eir have been contacted for comment on this situation which affects the St Michael Street, Blind Street and Bank Place areas and also some homes in the area extending to Pearse Park.
