The Saskatchewan Roughriders have brought back another award-winning prospect from their 2025 CFL Draft class, signing offensive lineman Erik Andersen.
Andersen was selected by the Riders with the 13th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 CFL Draft, but elected to return to school for his final season of eligibility after initially reporting to training camp.
The six-foot-six, 314-pound left tackle was rewarded for that decision by winning the J.P. Metras Trophy as the top lineman in Canadian university football. He anchored a Western offensive line that led the country in points scored per game (45.1) and produced the second-most offensive yards per game (503.5), while averaging 269.9 yards per game on the ground and scoring 28 rushing touchdowns – 14 more than the next closest team.Â
Andersen suited up in 46 total games as a Mustang and was named a first-team All-Canadian in each of the last three seasons. The London, Ont., native attended rookie mini-camp with the New York Giants this spring.Â
The Saskatchewan Roughriders finished first in the West Division standings in 2025 with a 12-6 record, finishing first in the West Division for the first time since 2019. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the team’s first championship in 12 years. Trevor Harris went 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The Roughriders ranked second in net offence, second in net defence, and tied for third with a turnover differential of plus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was A.J. Ouellette with 1,222 yards, the leading receiver was KeeSean Johnson with 1,159 yards, and the leading tackler was A.J. Allen with 91 tackles. Saskatchewan finished second in attendance with average crowds of 28,427, which was a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year.
