President Donald Trump, Wayne Gretzky, Brooks Koepka, Bret Baier played 18 on the very same Florida course where an assassin was arrested last year.

And what a foursome this was — all at the invitation of Donald Trump on the two-time president’s own golf course.

Pretty cool. It’s fantastic. Sometimes the politics can wait.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of those golf carts on the beautiful 18 holes at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
There must have been some pretty good banter and teasing during that round. The president, after all, has routinely jokingly called Gretzky “the governor” of the 51st state of Canada but then later made him a “free agent” understanding he’s Canadian — first and always.
No. 99 has told me, and others, that he never tells the president, premiers or prime ministers what to do because “I’m just a hockey player.” From former prime ministers Justin Trudeau, Jean Chretien, and Stephen Harper to Premier Doug Ford and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Gretzky is friends with them all.

Mostly, Gretzky is a Canadian patriot and ambassador and he wears the maple leaf above his heart at all times.
And Trump knows that.
Trump has also battled it out in the past with Baier for telling him in an interview that “you lost the 2020 election” and when golfing with PGA and U.S. Open winner Koepka in 2022, he teased “I’m just trying to learn from him.”
Gretzky, the four-time Stanley Cup winner, Canadian icon and the NHL’s greatest ever player; Brooks Koepka, the five-time golf champion; and Bret Baiers, one of Trump’s biggest Fox News critics, played a round together with the commander-in-chief.

This wasn’t a work day. This was how these four men at the top of their professions spent their Saturday — at least part of it for the president, who clearly has a lot of files going on and is always on the job.
But everybody needs to take a break sometimes and hang out with friends. It looks like Trump had fun. And same goes for the rest of them.

Play VideoJust four pals out on the golf course
These guys all know each other and have for years. Trump and Gretzky go way back to their New York City days. And Koepka is a close friend of Dustin Johnson who is Gretzky’s son in law.
You take politics out of it and this is just four pals golfing on the links close to where they all live.
Of course, there are always going to be some who post negative comments on social media and that’s OK, too. Everybody is free to say or think whatever they want.

People are free to golf with whoever they want to
Just like these guys are free to go golfing with whomever they choose.
But when I was putting this together, there were lots of positive messages about this golf outing, too — many saying “good for them,” and that they would go, too, if invited.
For many, it’s neat to see. It’s certainly newsworthy. Trump’s picture and video were picked up by media around the world.

The golf date is a reminder that people are people. They are fellow human beings who have friends and are entitled to have some fun, too.
Those who live in the public eye like these four have amazing days and tough days. There is no easy road for anybody. Everybody needs to be cut some slack and given the right to kick back and enjoy themselves.

Same golf course where assassin laid in wait
Don’t forget this is the same golf course where a rifle-toting man hid near the sixth hole with the intention of assassinating Trump on Sept. 15, 2024. If not for a quick-thinking secret service agent, there may have no future golf for Trump.
But this day was not about running a government. This was a positive day in which four friends went golfing. They have done it before, and they have every right to do it again.
It was not about politics or world events. It was about golf.

In fact, another post showed Trump sinking a nice chip off the green — which, at almost 80 — was a shot to boast about.
“Winning is always nice,” Trump wrote on his post.
There were a whole bunch of winners on that golf course with him on Saturday.
