A new influenza strain has been circulating in countries, and medical experts warn that it will hit Canada this holiday season.

They say that vaccination is the best protection against the virus.

However, experts admit that the vaccine will not be as effective as in previous years.

“Even against this variant, scientists do believe that there’s an effectiveness, and it’s less likely to wind up severely ill or in the hospital if you’re vaccinated,” said ABC News Medical Contributor Dr. Alok Patel.

“Also, if you have symptoms, do the right thing. I know it’s the holiday season. People wanna party. Stay home until you don’t have any symptoms. Make sure you are handwashing, covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and wearing a mask. If you have symptoms and you’re going out in public.”
