Toronto police say a garbage truck worker was struck and killed Tuesday morning by the vehicle he was operating.

Police said the incident happened on Tuesday at around 8:30 a.m. near Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road.
Investigators said the worker was outside of the vehicle when it rolled away and struck him.

The 66-year-old driver died at the scene, police said.
Global News obtained home video surveillance footage of the incident showing the driver walking alongside the garbage truck as it was rolling forward. The video appears to show the worker fall and then get struck by the moving truck.
In a statement, the City of Toronto said it is “deeply saddened” by the death of one of their workers during a workplace incident.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to our colleague’s family, friends and peers, and are committed to supporting our employees during this difficult time,” the city said.
The Ministry of Labour was notified of the incident. No further details were released.
