The Toronto Blue Jays have added a bit of star power this offseason.

And no, we’re not just talking about their free agent signings, though one of them did help recruit a new famous fan to the franchise.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the Blue Jays signed free agent pitcher Cody Ponce, fresh off a season winning the KBO’s MVP as the best player in South Korea.

Ponce returns to the MLB for the first time since 2021 as what seems like a more well-polished pitcher, and could play a big part in Toronto’s plans next year.

But interestingly, he also comes with a famous brother-in-law, as pointed out by Postmedia’s Rob Wong: San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle.

A six-time Pro Bowl player and a two-time first-team All-Pro, Kittle has been one of the most productive tight ends in league history.

Originally a fifth-round pick out of Iowa in 2017, Kittle has made his mark on the football world as one of the NFL’s best pass-catching tight ends, having picked up 1,000 yards or more in four different seasons.

Kittle has twice played in the Super Bowl with the 49ers, but lost both times to perhaps the only active tight end currently more well-known than him: Kansas City Chiefs star (and Taylor Swift’s fiancé) Travis Kelce.

While we don’t know how Ponce will turn out in Toronto, we can bet that Kittle will be cheering him on.

I will be at a game or several!

“I will be at a game or several!” Kittle replied to a Canadian 49ers fan inviting him to Toronto.

After spring training wraps up in Florida, the Blue Jays head back to Toronto for a March 27 home opener against the Athletics.  So if you’re in attendance at the Rogers Centre at all next season, you just might need to keep an extra set of eyes out for Kittle.
