Following our previous look at an opening for a Senior Architect at OMA, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Junior Architectural Designer at Spacial AI.

The role, based in Palo Alto, CA, calls for an individual who will develop and produce design and construction drawings in ArchiCAD for residential and light commercial projects. Among the qualifications needed for the role are a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field, advanced proficiency in ArchiCAD, and at least three years of experience in an architecture office.

Why the role interests us

The open role at Spacial AI offers us an example of the growing adoption of artificial intelligence in the design and construction process. Describing themselves as “an AI engineering firm,” Spacial seeks to unite structural, MEP, and engineering services in one place to streamline handoffs and engineering workflows.

“Licensed engineers and AI work together from the start,” Spacial says about its process. “You share the set. Our AI validates design intent, runs jurisdiction-specific code checks, and surfaces conflicts. From day one we coordinate structural, MEP, and energy in one loop. PE-licensed engineers review the model, resolve clashes before submittal, generate the sheets and schedules, and prepare clear responses for plan check.”

The open role comes shortly after engineering giant AECOM acquired an AI startup from Norway for $390 million. Last month, meanwhile, Archinect spoke with AI-native artificial intelligence company Cedar on the growing adoption of AI across the architecture industry.
