Venmo faced a widespread outage Wednesday night. The payment app said it was working on a fix.
Venmo said it was working to fix an issue affecting the payment app Wednesday night after thousands of users reported encountering problems.Â
“We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues with Venmo right now,” Venmo said in a post to X. “Our team is working on a fix, and we’ll update you as soon as it’s resolved. Thanks for your patience.”
Reports spiked Wednesday evening on DownDetector, a website that tracks outages by user reports. Some reported issues logging in, transferring funds or using the Venmo debit card linked to their accounts.Â
The app allows users to send money to other users and transfer funds in and out of bank accounts.Â
Peer-to-peer payment apps have exploded in popularity in the last decade. Venmo had 92 million active users as of last year. It has been owned by PayPal since 2013.Â
