Providence Care Hospice has launched its first holiday fundraiser featuring a handcrafted pewter cardinal ornament created by local designer goldsmith Cindy Johnson.

According to a release from the health care organization, the ornaments are available now for $25 each, with all proceeds supporting Providence Care Hospice programming, including Kingston’s first hospice residence, AB Smith Homestead House.

“Unlike hospitals, hospice services, including our hospice house, are not funded the same way by the province,” said Krista Wells Pearce, Executive Director of Hospice Services at Providence Care.

“We rely on the generosity of our community to keep our doors open and provide more end-of-life care options for people in Kingston and the surrounding area. We are so grateful to Cindy Johnson for sharing her artistry with us.”

According to the release, sales will take place at three locations:

Providence Care Hospice, AB Smith Homestead House, 152 Phillips St., Kingston. Orders can be made by emailing [email protected] or calling 613-544-5900 ext. 59103.Providence Care Hospital Gift Shop, 752 King St. W., Kingston.Providence Manor Gift Shop, 275 Sydenham St., Kingston.

The cardinal design is a symbol of remembrance, Providence Care detailed. According to the release, it is often associated with the belief that when a cardinal appears, it serves as a reminder of a loved one no longer with us, but forever in our hearts.

“Quantities are limited, get yours today,” Providence Care stated.
