Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra series is the best the company has to offer, but the 2025 refresh was underwhelming to say the least. According to a new report, though, Samsung is planning a proper sequel, though one that might not be called “Galaxy Watch Ultra 2,” for 2026.
The first Galaxy Watch Ultra launched in 2024 alongside the Galaxy Watch 7. The super-sized smartwatch delivered on its promise of better battery life, more rugged hardware, and wider capabilities, but the 2025 refresh didn’t really expand on it. The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is almost the exact same watch in virtually every way, to the point where a discount on the prior model around the time of Samsung’s launch made way more sense for everyone.
The only real difference on the 2025 model was the band connector, which was updated to use a new, different proprietary connector to match the one in the rest of the Galaxy Watch 8 series. It also picked up a new blue color.
GalaxyClub reports that 2026 will be different, with a proper Galaxy Watch Ultra sequel planned.

Details are a little scarce, but the new device would arrive alongside the Galaxy Watch 9 series, likely in July/August around the time of Samsung’s next-gen foldables. The smartwatch is apparently being developed under the name “Galaxy Watch 9 Ultra” instead of “Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.” While the naming, like Google’s “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” is a little cumbersome, it does better align the Ultra with its brethren.
Even if we don’t know a ton about the watch, the timing is notable, as Samsung often goes for a “tick-tock” cycle with its smartwatches, only releasing a new model of its non-base design every other year.
