It all comes down to this. Three drivers are set to battle it out for the championship on Sunday, as the 2025 Formula 1 season will come to an end with the annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
After years of lackluster, sometimes boring, ends to the past few F1 seasons, fans are going to be treated to sports cinema in Yas Island, as Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri all have a shot at winning the drivers’ championship.
For most of the season, Piastri had led the pack, with his McLaren Racing teammate trailing. However, a strong surge for Norris, which included him winning back-to-back races over a month ago, finishing on the podium in four consecutive events, helped him grab the top spot in points.
However, Verstappen has been a furious charge to stay in contention. He has won each of the past two races, giving him seven on the season.
Heading into the weekend, Norris sits 12 points ahead of Verstappen, and 16 in front of Piastri.
Both Piastri and Norris are looking for their first world titles, and McLaren’s first drivers’ championship since Lewis Hamilton’s first championship in 2008. Verstappen is looking to become just the second driver to win five consecutive championships, joining the legend Michael Schumacher.
