Lewis Hamilton is working hard to find improvements at Ferrari amid the longest run in his Formula 1 career without a podium.

The Briton had hopes of a dream switch from Mercedes over the winter, but so far, has failed to deliver much of note.

Hamilton’s sprint victory at the second race of the season in China was more of an anomaly, and he has battled with the SF25 ever since.

Ferrari have brought many upgrades recently, and they appear to have paid dividends on one side of the garage. Charles Leclerc has four podiums in his last six races, which is an encouraging sign.

During a rain delay at the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari made an interesting change to Hamilton’s car by changing the grip on his steering wheel. It may have helped him carve through the field as well as he did.

Despite only getting six points for his efforts, Hamilton was told he did something ‘not normal’ by driving so impressively at Spa. He still has that cutting edge.

Charles Leclerc will be delighted with what Hamilton said about him, following a string of solid performances recently. He has established himself as their main driver for now.

But he did admit that he’s envious of the seven-time champion in one specific area – under braking, where he has always been strong.

“All these things were expected, but I was still surprised by the way he brakes, for example. How late he brakes is very, very, very impressive,” he said, according to GPBlog.

And Hamilton will now get the chance to flex his strengths under braking even more after making a change to his car at Spa.

He and Ferrari successfully changed which Brembo brake pads he used according to the Italian edition of Motorsport.com.

It is viewed as another piece being found in his Scuderia ‘puzzle’, which has led him on a season-long quest for answers.

Why Ferrari should be stronger in the second half of the 2025 F1 season

While Ferrari have been focused on bringing meaningful developments to the SF25 recently, their rivals haven’t brought as much to the track.

It means that their focus may have been on 2026 a little more, and that whatever they have now is what they intend to compete with for the rest of the campaign.

Ferrari haven’t really had a chance to flex their new parts yet, and the Hungarian Grand Prix, the last race before the summer break, could be a good opportunity for them.

Beating both McLarens may be a stretch, but getting one car ahead of them is a possibility. It may only be a matter of time before they finally secure their first victory of the season.
