The Brief
• Community cyclists gathered Sunday morning for a special fat bike ride following Global Fat Bike Day
• The two-hour ride took participants through the marsh, into Hixon, and back to the starting point
• Fat bikes use larger tires that perform better in snow than regular bicycles
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Community members gathered Sunday morning for a special cycling event following Global Fat Bike Day on Saturday.
Riders met at 10 a.m. for a slow roll through the marsh, into Hixon, and back. The ride lasted about two hours.
Organizers say the event provides a way to gather cyclists to use a unique type of equipment during the winter season.
“So a normal bike can’t fit really big tires, but the bigger the tires are the better it will go through snow,” said Chris Stindt, operations director of Smith’s Bike Shop. “The fat bike is a fun way to give you an excuse to get outside, gather with friends, you know you can see the people coming around here today. Hoping we have 10, 20 people get together and just get out and go for a ride.”
After the bike ride, riders warmed up with hot chocolate and community connection.
