A former tenth overall pick has been named as a potential center option for the Vancouver Canucks as they continue their search for some more depth down the middle.

With the month of July coming to a close, action around the National Hockey League on both the trade and free agent front has quieted down significantly, however with a number of teams around the National Hockey League still looking to fill holes on their respective roster, we could be in for a busier than usual August.

One of those teams with holes still to fill is the Vancouver Canucks, who aren’t done adding to their roster according to one insider and with a top-six centerman their main target, it’s going to be interesting to see if Patrik Allvin is able to land one between now and training camp.”It may be mid-summer, but #Canucks management isn’t “off to the cottage” just yet.

Hear the club is monitoring a couple of the UFA options still on the market. No surprise given their recent history.

VAN needs to move out cap dollars first, + they’re actively working to do so.” Thomas Drance of The Athletic said.

Former tenth overall pick named as possible option for Vancouver Canucks

Throughout the summer, a number of potential center targets have been suggested for the Vancouver Canucks, some of whom they made contract offers to such as Christian Dvorak, while others they simply just haven’t been able to afford on the trade market because prices are still very high.

With the trade market being Vancouver’s only avenue to acquire a legit middle-six centerman, Trevor Beggs of Daily Hive recently suggested some names that the club could target as we head into the second full month of the NHL’s offseason.

One name that Beggs mentioned is Owen Tippett of the Philadelphia Flyers, who has been solid offensively for the club, scoring 20+ goals in each of his last three seasons, and is under contract until the end of the 2031-32 campaign with a cap hit of $6.2 million US.”Acquiring either of these Philadelphia Flyers forwards might have made more sense if Thatcher Demko was still available, or if Arturs Silovs was still with the organization, considering Philadelphia’s desperate need for a goaltender.” Beggs said.

He added, “Owen Tippett might be the more realistic trade target. He’s 26 years old and saw both his production and ice time dip last season.”

Tippett, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, is hoping for a bit of a fresh slate next season under new Head Coach Rick Tocchet, who they hired in mid-May after parts of three seasons behind the bench in Vancouver. If for some reason things don’t work out for Owen Tippett under Rick Tocchet and the Flyers decide to take calls on him, the Vancouver Canucks should certainly inquire to see what it’ll cost to bring him to British Columbia as he would be a solid second line centerman for the club, potentially playing alongside Evander Kane and Conor Garland.
