Defense is usually the calling card for Golden State, though they are coming off of what could be considered their worst performance of the season, in a 95–64 loss to the Connecticut Sun. Despite only winning three games previously, the Sun ran roughshod over the Valkyries, shooting 53% from the field and 41.4% from the 3-point line. Golden State got 13 points from Iliana Rupert off the bench, but they turned the ball over 22 times and shot just 28.1% from the 3-point line en route to the lopsided loss.
At 15-10, the Dream find themselves in control of their destiny as it relates to home court advantage in the WNBA playoffs. The Dream have won two straight, including an impressive 90-86 road win over the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx. Brittney Griner led the team with 22 points, with Jordin Canada adding 18 and Allisha Gray scoring 12 to go with her four steals.
The Dream defeated the Valkyries in their first meeting, a 90-81 victory in Atlanta back on July 7th.
