Tuesday’s WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries came to a halt when a neon green sex toy was launched onto the court in the game’s final minute.

With 42.5 seconds remaining and the score tied at 75, Atlanta guard Maya Caldwell stuffed a three-point attempt from Tiffany Hayes. The crowd roared, but not in the same way as the Crypto.com arena for Cameron Brink’s return. Confusion quickly followed as referees Charles Watson and Angel Kent blew the whistle and stopped the action.

Cameras zoomed in revealing an object that nobody expected, which turned out to be a bright green adult toy lying near the sideline. “That is a first,” one stunned broadcaster said, as game footage showed the object bouncing across the hardwood mid-play.

“We don’t play that. There’s no room for that, ever,” said the commentary team. This is just he latest odd fan moment in the WNBA, a day after a spectator heckled the Phoenix Mercury’s Kahleah Copper after her wig fell off against the Washington Mystics.

Play-by-play commentary described the object Tuesday as something green that was launched, uncertain of its origin, but noted the object remained underneath a seat as the game was not initially stopped.

Security swarmed the section of Gateway Center where the item originated, with 3,265 fans in attendance witnessing the disruption. The commentary team urged security to find the source of the offensive gesture and immediately remove them from the arena.

Replay footage showed the object descending from the sky onto the court, bouncing on impact from the foul line, and skidding toward the sideline. Cameras also caught Jordin Canada’s shocked reaction after witnessing what happened.

“The most important thing when you come to see your favorite W players take the floor is keeping them safe,” said an announcer team member.

Seattle Storm guard Erica Wheeler tweeted, “Aye yooooo what’s going on in ATL?” Renee Montgomery, the Vice President of Dream, seated courtside during the game, characterized the moment as “unreal.”

Montgomery was shown alongside security as the object was eventually removed, wrapped in a hand towel. But not before the WNBA community reacted to what they witnessed in real time.

Aside from the action considered “disrespectful” on the broadcast, the league was criticized for zooming in and focusing on the object instead of trying to avoid giving it airtime during the game.

The game ultimately resumed, and the Valkyries won as Hayes found Cecilia Zandalasini for an 11-foot jumper with just 3.2 seconds left.

The win brought the Valykies to a 12-13 record, while the Dream fell to 15-12, remaining a top-two team in the Eastern Conference.

The Valkyries were led by Zandalasini, who scored 18 points off the bench, Hayes contributing 12 points, Carla Leite adding 12 points, and Veronia Burton with 10 points.

Canada was the top scorer for the Dream, tallying 21 points in the loss.
