A Toronto police officer is facing charges after allegedly stealing found property, instead of arranging to return it.
Police said when the officer was working the front desk at 52 Division on Sept. 4 he allegedly failed to log the found items and try to return them to their owner.
Investigators did not say how many items were allegedly taken.
In a news release, police said Const. Timothy Deacon, 50, has been charged with with theft, obstruct peace officer, and breach of trust.
The charges have not been tested in court.
Deacon has worked for Toronto Police Service for 16 years and is currently assigned to 52 Division.
As per the provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act, he has been suspended with pay.
