The status of the Calgary Stampeders’ star quarterback for Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Redblacks remains up in the air.

Vernon Adams Jr. was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Tuesday.

The Calgary pivot left late in a Week 8 loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Near the end of the third quarter, Adams scrambled out of the pocket and ran for a seven-yard gain before he was hit hard by Montreal linebacker Tyrice Beverette. Although he got to his feet and walked to the sidelines, he was assessed for a head injury and didn’t return to the game.

The former B.C. Lions quarterback is off to a great start in his first season in Calgary, with 1,913 yards and nine touchdowns. His excellent play has the Stampeders off to a surprising 5-2 start and second place in the West Division.

If Adams can’t go, P.J. Walker is expected to start in his place.

Whoever is under centre for the Stamps will be without one of the team’s top targets as Damien Alford was ruled out by the team Tuesday.

Alford, Calgary’s No. 1 pick in the 2025 CFL Draft, went down early in Week 8 with a hamstring injury and did not return to the game.
