Brendan Shanahan was moved on by the Maple Leafs, and now, he’s expressed interest in the same role with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made some massive changes in their front office this summer, with the organization placing more responsibility on Brad Treliving’s shoulders as they moved on from President of Hockey Operations, Brendan Shanahan.Since that point, the former Red Wings superstar has taken up a role in the NHL’s Hockey Operations department, but clearly he has a passion for being in a team’s front office, and that hasn’t changed.

Brendan Shanahan eyeing a role in Vancouver

While there’s no clear roles for Shanahan to take up in the NHL at this point in time, that doesn’t mean he’s not eyeing opportunities, with Frank Seravalli revealing the latest on his future in the league.

When asked about the possibility of Shanahan taking on a role in Vancouver, Seravalli states that despite some speculation he wouldn’t enjoy working with the owner in Vancouver, he would indeed be interested in a role with the Canucks.

As of right now, the President of Hockey Operations job is taken by Jim Rutherford, who has been in that role for the past four seasons, but given the Canucks struggles, his future may not be as certain as once thought.

Ultimately, a change in Vancouver isn’t likely to happen during the season, but with the pressure to build a winner constantly hanging over the franchise, if their struggles continue and they look to make a change, expect Shanahan to be one of the favourites to take over that role.
