The Denver Broncos worked out eight CFL players on Friday, including B.C. Lions’ defensive back Robert Carter Jr.

Carter started all 18 games in 2025, earning the Lions’ team nomination for Most Outstanding Rookie. He recorded 51 defensive tackles, five interceptions, one forced fumble, and a defensive touchdown. Carter also started both of the team’s playoff games, adding a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown in the West Semi-Final.

The five-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback quickly earned a reputation for generating spectacular plays. That included a leaping, one-handed interception against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that made highlight reels on both sides of the border and is widely regarded as the CFL play of the year.

Prior to signing with the Lions, Carter attended Robert Morris University, where he was a second-team all-conference selection as a senior in 2024. In two seasons with the Colonials, he amassed 66 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, 14 pass breakups, five interceptions, and two blocked kicks, while returning 22 kicks for 588 yards and one touchdown.

The native of Danville, Va., transferred from UVA-Wise, where he produced 74 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 17 pass breakups, seven interceptions and one fumble recovery in two seasons. Carter also returned 31 kickoffs for 660 yards and one touchdown for the Division II program.

This was Carter’s first NFL workout. According to sources, he is expected to have more in the coming days.

Per the NFL’s transaction wire, Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Dohnte Meyers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Destin Talbert, Winnipeg Blue Bombers returner Trey Vaval, Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebackers Devin Veresuk and Braxton Hill, and Toronto Argonauts’ defensive end Andrew Chatfield Jr. were also in attendance in Denver. Additionally, Hamilton Tiger-Cats returner Isaiah Wooden Sr. was part of the group, as first reported by 3DownNation.

Meyers had a breakout season with the Roughriders in 2025, recording 65 catches for 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns to be named All-West Division. The 25-year-old first joined Saskatchewan in 2024 when he caught 24 passes for 349 yards and one score.

The five-foot-ten, 190-pound target finished his collegiate career at Delta State University, a Division II program located in Cleveland, Miss. He was named first-team All-Conference in his senior season after making 65 receptions for 877 yards and eight touchdowns.

This was Meyers’ third NFL workout, following visits to the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.

Talbert joined the Tiger-Cats in 2024 and has appeared in all 36 games for the team over two seasons, establishing himself as one of the league’s top young halfbacks. The 26-year-old has compiled 113 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, five interceptions, and one defensive touchdown in Black and Gold.

The native of Darien, Ill., attended North Dakota State, where he played 67 games over five seasons. He amassed 144 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 25 pass breakups, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown as a Bison.

This was Talbert’s first NFL workout of the offseason.

Vaval was recently named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. He led the league in punt return yards (957), missed field goal return yards (391), and total return touchdowns (four) in 2025, while also finishing third in all-purpose yards (2,266) and fifth in kickoff return yards (918).

He also started four games at cornerback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, recording 21 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and one interception.

The 25-year-old finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State University, where he recorded 69 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass knockdowns, five blocked kicks, two interceptions, two touchdowns, and one sack over 25 games. The five-foot-eleven, 171-pound speedster from Blue Springs, Mo., attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, before making his way to Canada.

Vaval has now worked out for five NFL teams, including the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Minnesota Vikings.

Veresuk was the second overall pick in the 2025 CFL Draft and made 15 regular-season starts at middle linebacker for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in his first year. He recorded 66 defensive tackles, three special team tackles, two sacks, two touchdowns, one forced fumble, and one interception. The native of Windsor, Ont., was named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Rookie.

The 24-year-old played collegiately for the University of Windsor. He registered 160 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, nine sacks, five pass knockdowns, two forced fumbles, and one interception returned for a touchdown with the Lancers and was named an OUA all-star in 2024.

This was Veresuk’s fourth NFL workout, following visits to the New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, and Cleveland Browns.

Hill began the 2025 season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before being released and signing with the Tiger-Cats. He appeared in eight games for the team, notching 16 defensive tackles, 14 special teams tackles, and two interceptions.

The 26-year-old played collegiately at the University of Montana, where he suited up in 51 collegiate games and recorded 231 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, nine sacks, eight pass knockdowns, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. He was named an All-American and first-team All-Big Sky as a senior.

This was Hill’s second NFL workout after a stop with the Cleveland Browns earlier this week.

Chatfield played 17 games for Toronto in 2025, recording 42 defensive tackles, seven sacks, and a defensive touchdown. The 27-year-old spent the 2024 season with the Ottawa Redblacks and dressed for one game, but was traded to the Argonauts in the offseason.

The six-foot-two, 254-pound pass rusher played six collegiate seasons split between the University of Florida and Oregon State University. He made 67 total tackles, 13 sacks, and two interceptions over 49 career games spent mostly as a rotational player.

This was Chatfield’s first NFL workout.

The NFL workout window opened on Monday, November 17. The window to sign with an NFL team opens January 5, 2026, and ends February 10, 2026, at 12:01 p.m. EST.

NFL teams must ask CFL franchises for permission to work out players, and the request cannot be denied. CFL players can opt out of their agreements north of the border if an NFL team offers a contract, though their CFL team maintains their rights through the duration of their pre-existing contract.

Meyers, Talbert and Wooden are pending CFL free agents, while the five other players have a season remaining on their current deals.

The Broncos currently sit first place in the AFC West standings at 11-2. They are slated to host the Green Bay Packers (9-3-1) on Sunday, December 14, at 4:25 p.m. EST.
