According to the National Golf Foundation, around 55% of golfers break 100 strokes on average, and only 26 percent regularly break 90.

Eighty-nine-year-old Joseph McAvoy is not your average golfer.

McAvoy said, “I’ve shot my age or under 2,037 to date. Today was another one, so it’s 2,038 as of today.”

McAvoy moved down to the Gulf Coast in 2008 to chase his passion for golf.

Six times a week, he falls in love with the game all over again, thanks to a few simple guidelines.

McAvoy said, “Good health, good golf course, good friends, being out here outdoors, and just being physically fit and have some ability to play golf.”

McAvoy’s friend and fellow golfer, David Rees, said, “Joe is a remarkable guy. I don’t know anyone here that does not love Joe. He’s probably one of the best iron players that I’ve ever played with in all of these years.”

Golfer and Joseph’s friend, Chase Lyons, said, “He has it down to a fine art. He enjoys it, we talk about it a lot, just a good all-around golfer.”

Along with a plaque that he was presented with by Estero Country Club when he eclipsed the 2,000 milestone, Joseph has documented each occurrence in his personal notebooks.
