Nic Demski and Brady Oliveira made a push for Kenny Lawler in the off-season
In the past three games, the opposition has five touchdowns scored from Winnipeg turnovers. The Riders tallied two majors off turnovers in the Labour Day Classic and one in the Banjo Bowl.
The third-place Bombers (6-7) have now lost three consecutive games. The Bombers are in Ottawa next Saturday. The Tiger-Cats (8-5) are first in the East Division. Hamilton has won two consecutive games.
“We need to get off our feet, watch some film and get ready for next week,” defensive end Willie Jefferson said. “We are not really worried about the standings or things like that. We just want to go out and play Winnipeg football, and at the end of the day let the chips fall where they may.”
Jefferson had one tackle and one knockdown. Coming into the game, Jefferson led the league in knockdowns with 12.
The Bombers pass defence continues to show its resolve. It has surrendered three touchdown passes in its last 12 quarters. The unit held Riders QB Trevor Harris to 458 yards passing and one touchdown in the consecutive defeats. Mitchell mustered 126 passing yards in the first half and 230 yards total.
Brady Oliveira rushed for 110 yards in the first half on 13 carries. In total, he rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries. Oliveira is now the seventh Blue Bomber to reach 5,000 rushing yards He came into the game with 4,974 yards on the ground. Oliveira also caught four balls for 35 yards.
Keric Wheatfall caught his fourth touchdown of the season in the first half on a 42-yard catch and run on third and short. Nic Demski’s 83 consecutive game reception streak continued with three catches for 48 yards. Last week, in his first game back in the CFL, Ontaria Wilson registered 89 receiving yards on five receptions. On Friday night Wilson caught five passes for 75 yards.
Sergio Castillo booted two field goals for the Bombers.
Bell rushed the ball for 137 yards on 22 carries. He also picked up a seven-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
Ex-Bomber Kenny Lawler caught seven passes for 97 yards. Coming into the game, Lawler had set career-highs in receptions (59) and receiving yards (1,047), marking his second career 1,000+ yard season. White had five catches for 64 yards.
Marc Liegghio kicked four field goals for Hamilton. Last week, Brett Lauther booted five field goals for the Riders.
