Samuel Montembeault is an incredible teammate, and it’s important to remind people of that.
Let’s recall that over the past few days, he has quite literally been pushed aside by rookie Jacob Fowler, who is in the process of taking his job, and Montembeault would have every reason in the world not to be the happiest guy right now.
We’ve seen many goaltenders sulk for far less than that. And how does Samuel react? By being an absolutely exemplary teammate.
There is one sequence in particular, one specific gesture, that was noticed on social media, but there were several others like it.

Montembeault genuinely seems to want Fowler to win and to succeed!
Notably this Saturday night, during the game against the New York Rangers, Montembeault flashed a huge smile (caught on camera) after the goal scored by Arber Xhekaj.
It goes in the same direction as what we saw against the Pittsburgh Penguins, when Montembeault was practically the first to rush over to congratulate Fowler and jump into his arms.

It’s a gesture that may seem insignificant, but it says so much about the quality of the person that Samuel Montembeault is.
