WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event kicked off tonight with a result that angered many in the WWE Universe.

With John Cena’s final match against Gunther closing Saturday Night’s Main Event, WWE kicked off tonight with a huge champion versus champion match as Cody Rhodes went one-on-one with Oba Femi.

Tonight was WWE’s first opportunity to present NXT Champion Oba Femi as a dominant force to those who don’t regularly consume the product’s third brand. Whether or not the company passed with flying colors is certainly up for debate.

During the match, Rhodes got busted open around his ear after a vicious table spot outside the ring with Femi.

The finish of the match saw Drew McIntyre hit the ring and attack Rhodes, leading to a disqualification.

Femi and Rhodes would team up and beat down McIntyre after the match, but the crowd’s response spoke volumes, and it’s evidently clear they were unhappy with the finish.

Is Drew McIntyre’s suspension over?

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis attempted to end Drew McIntyre’s suspension last night. Sending the following message to McIntyre on social media:

“As you know, Drew McIntyre was recently suspended from SmackDown,” Nick Aldis began. “And despite what Drew might think, since that time, I’ve been working tirelessly to try to reinstate him and bring him back where he belongs.

“That’s become increasingly difficult this week. Given the fact that Drew won’t return my calls, has not returned emails, has not returned text messages. So he’s left me no choice but to use this platform to address him directly and say Drew, consider this an official invitation to come here tonight so that we can discuss a resolution together to bring you back to SmackDown.”

Despite Aldis’ best efforts, the Scottish Warrior refused to appear at the show, claiming an unsafe work environment.

It’s unknown if his interference in tonight’s match will result in a harsher punishment from Aldis.
