The long-awaited weather pattern change arrives this week, ending two weeks of relentless cold and snow. Tuesday’s above-freezing temperatures mark the first time since early December that readings have climbed above 0°C, initiating a thaw that will accelerate dramatically on Thursday, when temperatures could reach 4°C with moderate rainfall. The pattern change is short-lived as a flash freeze arrives by the end of the workweek.
Cloudy skies continue Monday with light snow from the morning clipper system tapering off by afternoon as temperatures climb to -5°C. Most areas receive another 2 to 5 cm as the northwest flow lake effect develops in the evening.
Tuesday will be cloudy as the pattern change delivers the first above-freezing temperatures since early December, with afternoon highs reaching 2°C under southwest flow ahead of the next system. The rapid warming begins melting the substantial snowpack as warm air finally displaces the persistent arctic regime. Only a trace of precipitation is expected.
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with continued mild conditions as temperatures hover near -1°C. Quiet weather continues, with only slight chances of a passing shower, as the region remains locked in the warm sector of the approaching Thursday storm system, which promises rainfall and above-freezing temperatures.
Daytime highs will climb to near +3°C on Thursday with rain all day. A cold front arrives later in the day, bringing much colder air back to the region, with a flash freeze and temperatures that struggle to reach -10°C on Friday.
